Light From Space

As light streams to us from the farthest reaches of the Universe, we gather it with telescopes and imaging systems to see what we can see.  In the last few decades we have increased our power to see this distant light by many orders of magnitude.  During the last decade alone the orbiting Hubble Space Telescope (HST) has provided us with some the most breathtaking views of space imaginable, and even before it is completed, ESO's ground-based Very Large Telescope (VLT) is beginning to add some great images to our archive of space scenes.
