The Scanning Electron Microscope
| These artificially colored images were created by Ron Barber (©1995), a teacher and electron micrographer, and along with his accompanying desciptions they provide a very interesting introduction to the SEM. | |
| The SEM is an extremely useful tool in many industries and is used where I work for process evaluation and failure analysis. Of course, there are times when its electron beam is focused on subjects which are not exactly work related, thus providing test and calibration for the instrument and valuable experience for the micrographer. Co-worker Rick Passey created these images and kindly offered them for display here. Below is one of the SEMs he uses. |
