The Scanning Electron Microscope

The SEM can reach to resolutions shorter than the wavelength of visible light, so its images are grayscale, basically showing an intensity-map of scattered electrons, a snapshot of the instrument's sensor translated to visible. Its ability to look beyond the visible in an extreme way makes it a very useful tool in many industries, as well as in research, education, and for just plain curiosity. |
